Secret to a Perfect
Spray Tan

Choosing the Right Clothing for the Session

Wearing loose and baggy clothing during your spray tan session is essential. This type of clothing doesn’t rub against your skin, allowing the tan to set evenly. It is best to bring an oversized, dark-colored T-shirt and loose pants to my appointments. This way, you feel comfortable and confident that your tan will come out perfect. Loose clothing ensures that the tan remains undisturbed and develops smoothly across your skin.

Why Loose Baggy Clothing is Best:e

  • Prevents Rubbing: Loose clothing does not cling to your skin, reducing the risk of the tanning solution being rubbed off before it has fully set.

  • Even Development: Allows the tanning solution to dry and develop evenly without pressure points that can cause streaks or lines.

  • Comfort: Provides comfort post-tan, especially when your skin might feel slightly sticky from the solution.

  • Breathability: Loose garments promote air circulation, helping the tan to dry naturally and evenly.

  • Minimal Staining: Dark, baggy clothing can help hide any accidental stains from the tanning solution, ensuring you don't ruin your favorite outfits.

Reasons Tight Clothing is Not Recommended:

  • Causes Streaks and Lines: Tight garments can create pressure points and friction, leading to uneven tan lines and streaks.

  • Rubs Off the Tan: The close fit can rub off the tanning solution from certain areas, causing patches and an uneven finish.

  • Reduces Drying Time: Tight clothing limits airflow, which can slow down the drying process of the tanning solution, affecting the final result.

  • Increased Staining Risk: Tight, light-colored clothing is more likely to show stains from the tanning solution, which can be difficult to remove depending on the solution your salon uses.

By opting for loose, baggy clothing, you ensure that your spray tan develops properly, leaving you with a smooth, even, and long-lasting glow. Tight clothing, on the other hand, poses risks that can compromise the quality of your tan and your overall comfort.

Recommended Clothing to Wear to Your Spray Tan Session

  • Oversized T-Shirts: Loose, dark-colored T-shirts that don’t cling to the body.

  • Baggy Pants: Loose pants or sweatpants that allow your skin to breathe.

  • Loose Dresses: Comfortable, flowy dresses that don’t rub against the skin.

  • Maxi Skirts: Long, loose skirts that provide comfort and coverage.

  • Open-Toe Sandals or Flip-Flops: Footwear that doesn’t rub against your feet or cause smudging.

  • Loose Long-Sleeve Tops: Ideal for cooler weather while still preventing tight contact with the skin.

Non-Recommended Clothing to Wear to Your Spray Tan Session

  • Tight Bras and Sports Bras: Can cause lines and pressure marks on the skin.

  • Leggings and Yoga Pants: Tight fit can rub off the tanning solution, leading to streaks.

  • Skinny Jeans: Similar to leggings, can cause uneven tan lines due to tightness.

  • Tight Underwear: Can leave marks and lines, affecting the tan’s evenness.

  • Form-Fitting Tops: Tight tops can press against the skin and disrupt the tanning solution.

  • Compression Garments: Designed to be tight, causing compression marks and uneven tanning.

  • Socks and Closed-Toe Shoes: Can leave lines on the ankles and feet, affecting the tan.

  • Tight Dresses and Skirts: Snug fit can rub against legs and waist, leading to uneven tanning.

  • Shapewear: Can cause compression marks and disrupt even tanning application.

Wearing the right attire to your spray tan session is crucial for achieving the best results. Loose, dark clothing helps ensure an even, streak-free tan, while tight and light-colored garments can cause issues and affect the overall outcome.

No Jewelry or Accessories

Jewelry and accessories can create marks and uneven areas in your tan. Before your session, remove all necklaces, bracelets, watches, and rings. Not only will this prevent unwanted tan lines, but it will also protect your jewelry from getting solution on it.

Don't Forget to Plan for the Weather

Weather conditions can significantly affect your spray tan, especially right after your session when your tan is still developing. If it’s raining or very humid, be sure to bring an umbrella or a raincoat to protect your fresh tan. Make sure you don't get caught in a downpour right after  your session.

The droplets from the rain may seem like no big deal, but it is crucial to keep your skin dry until your tan has fully developed and is ready to be rinsed off. Any moisture on your skin during this critical period can cause streaks and patches, resulting in an uneven tan. Always check the weather forecast and be prepared to ensure your tan remains flawless.
